Project Controls at The Trenchless Company

WHAT’S YOUR NAME AND ROLE, AND WHAT DIVISION DO YOU WORK UNDER AT THE CROSSING GROUP?

My name is Erin A. Scott. I work Project Controls for The Trenchless Company, and on the CHPE Project in Upstate New York for The HDD Company.

WHERE DID YOU START AND WHAT HAS YOUR CAREER PATH BEEN LIKE AT THE CROSSING GROUP?

I started with The Crossing Group as a Project Coordinator for The Trenchless Company. My first project was the Little Smoky River Direct Pipe® Crossing near Fox Creek, Alberta in 2021. The weather was unforgiving and the crossing was very challenging, but the people were amazing and we successfully completed it in the end. I was fascinated by the Direct Pipe® method and equipment, and this fascination continued to drive my passion as I advanced in my role.

After completing the Little Smoky Crossing, I became a certified excavator operator, which is something I always wanted to accomplish. I then joined The Trenchless Company on the TMEP project in British Columbia, Canada, where we completed three Direct Pipe® Crossings. In early 2024, we completed another Direct Pipe® Crossing in Freeport, TX, USA. I joined The Trenchless Company’s work on the CHPE Project in New York later that year, working in Project Controls.

Work hard. Treat people the way you’d like to be treated.

WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING (OR FAVOURITE) PART OF YOUR ROLE?

The most rewarding part of my role is travelling to different places, seeing the different ways things are done, and meeting people with different perspectives. To see the world from different perspectives is to see it many times over, and this has brought infinite value to me both personally and professionally.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WORKING AT THE CROSSING GROUP?

My favorite thing about working for The Crossing Group is the ability to be fluid in supporting other people and the business as a whole. While there is structure, there’s also room for creativity in how I help grow the business and solve problems. I truly enjoy being a person who can assist with multiple divisions and areas of the business, including operations, accounting, procurement, and project management.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE CULTURE AT THE CROSSING GROUP?

I would describe The Crossing Group’s culture as both hard working and fun. We push ourselves to the limit when necessary, and I don’t think we could do this if we didn’t take advantage of every opportunity to make each other laugh.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO WORK IN A ROLE SUCH AS YOURS AT THE CROSSING GROUP?

Work hard. Treat people the way you’d like to be treated. Don’t limit yourself to your title or your field. Never miss an opportunity to learn from someone, even when you disagree. If you do the right thing, the right people will notice, and you won’t have to strive for any role — it will come to you.
